He also cites the fact that pathogens do not become UV resistant, UV disinfection’s ability to inactive pathogens rather than simply trap them, and decades of research into the safe deployment of UV-C as reasons behind its preference for manufacturers, patients, and care providers alike.
Despite the benefits over alternative disinfection, Stern does warn that “guidance from regulatory bodies is limited, so I would always recommend discussing your options with a few UV Lighting companies. Asking for data and potentially asking for assistance reviewing the data from an expert at a university or hospital could go a long way”.
